About Us

Research Autism is the only UK charity exclusively dedicated to research into interventions in autism.

We carry out high quality, independent research into new and existing health, education, social and other interventions. Our goal is the improvement of quality of life and outlook for the individuals affected and those around them.

We have the active support of some of the world's leading figures in autism and in research. As far as possible, we also try to work with individuals on the autism spectrum, carers, service providers and policy makers to make sure that our research addresses real issues and that it makes a significant difference to people's lives.

Because of this we have been able to create a cultural shift in demanding gold-standard research which delivers practical benefits for people on the autism spectrum. We

  • were the first to involve autistic people in research
  • were the first to flag the issue of women and girls on the autism spectrum
  • were the first to flag sleep as a significant issue
  • were the first to bring insight into the needs of mentoring for autistic adults.

We are also the only autism organisation in the world accredited to the Information Standard. Because of this our website is now widely recognised as the most important and authoritative source of research on autism that people can trust.

We receive generous financial support from a range of organisations and individuals. The support we receive from them is freely given and does not influence the editorial policy of this site.
