Disclaimer

The fact that an intervention or technique is listed here does not necessarily mean that we support its use. Nor does it mean that there is any scientifically valid or reliable evidence behind it.

Over time we hope to evaluate each of the interventions and techniques in this section, providing a ranking which tells you the level of scientific evidence which supports or does not support its use. Intervention Name
Description
Vasopressin

Also known as AVP, arginine vasopressin, argipressin or antidiuretic hormone (ADH), vasopressin is a peptide hormone which plays an important role in increasing water re-absorption in the kidneys.

AVP has also been implicated in male-typical social behaviours, including aggression and pair-bond formation. It has also been shown to reduce anxiety.

Because of this, some people believe that AVP could be useful as an intervention for some of the problems faced by some people with autism spectrum disorders.
