Summary

This page provides a summary of the evidence for the effectiveness or otherwise of this intervention. It is based on an analysis of the scientific trials and the anecdotal reports we have identified.

There is some evidence from a small number of published trials to suggest that antidepressants may reduce repetitive behaviours in some indiviudals with autism.

Large scale methodologically adequate trials are needed that examine pre-specified autistic outcomes.
