Introduction

Anti-convulsant tablet, topiramate Topiramate is a type of anticonvulsant and mood stabilser medication sold under the brand name Topamax®.

It is designed to prevent or reduce the severity of seizures. It is also used as a mood stabiliser and to prevent migraine attacks.

Some people believe that it can also be used to reduce some of the core symptoms of autism, such as social and communication difficulties and repetitive, compulsive behaviour.

Opinion

We are currently reviewing the research evidence on the use of the anticonvulsant medication topiramate as a treatment for people with autism.
