Imipramine is a type of tricyclic anti-depressant sold under various brand names including Tofranil®.
It is used to treat depression and also to prevent bedwetting in children.
Imipramine is sometimes used to treat people with autism who have mental health problems. It may also be used to treat people with ASD who have other problems, such as repetitive behaviours or social deficits.
We are currently reviewing the research evidence on the use of imipramine for people with autism. We have not yet formed an opinion on citalopram but we do have an opinion on Anti-Depressants as a whole
