Introduction
Propranolol is a type of drug called β-adrenergic antagonists (beta blockers). It is sold under various brand names including Inderal® and InnoPran®.
Propranolol is used to treat a range of conditions including high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, heart disease, pheochromocytoma, and certain types of tremor. It is also used to prevent angina and migraine headaches. Propranolol is also used to improve survival after a heart attack.
Propranolol works by works by relaxing blood vessels and slowing heart rate to improve blood flow and decrease blood pressure.
Propranolol has been shown to be effective in helping some individuals solve simple problems Because of this some researchers believe it can also be used to help some people with autism to do the same.
Opinion
We are currently reviewing the research evidence on the use of the propranolol for people with autism.
