Introduction

Bananas The specific carbohydrate diet is a very strict, complex and restrictive diet which requires an individual to prepare most of his food for him or herself.

The diet excludes complex carbohydrates, such as those found in rice and potatoes. These carbohydrates are replaced with simple carbohydrates, such as those found in bananas and squashes.

The diet also uses fermented products, such as homemade yogurt, to repopulate the gut with beneficial yeasts and bacteria.

The diet is designed to promote normal gut functioning, which in turn is supposed to lead to improvements in behavior, cognitive and language development in some people.
