There are many people who feel that diet is a key factor in causing/managing some of the problems experienced by individuals with autism.
There is a wide variety of special diets which some people claim will benefit individuals with autism. Most diets involve eating more or less of specific foodstuffs.
For example, some diets require the individual to eat foodstuffs which contain ingredients believed to benefit him or her – such as the essential fatty acid omega-3 or the neurotransmitter serotonin.
Other diets require the individual to avoid or reduce foodstuffs which are believed to harm him or her – such as gluten and casein, or yeast.
Diets are sometimes combined with other therapies. For example, some people advocate following a particular diet, taking one or more dietary supplements and using detoxification techniques such as chelation.

Because diets for people with autism constitute such a wide range of treatments it is not possible to provide a ranking for diets as a whole.
